Deputy city management and the director of public safety told the commission the department does not currently use artificial‑intelligence tools for report writing beyond standard grammar tools; Grammarly was cited as the closest existing tool. "We're on tier 1. We have no intention of opting into tier 2 at this time," staff said in response to commissioner questions.
The contract lists annual costs for fiscal years 2026 through 2030 and a five‑year total of $299,773.80. Commissioners said they support body cameras while seeking transparency about data use and any future AI features; staff confirmed that any addition of model‑training or other Tier‑2 programs would be brought to the commission prior to execution.
The motion passed on voice/roll call with unanimous support from members present.
