Wesley Chapel resident urges Pasco County to investigate alleged inspection, contractor problems

A Wesley Chapel resident identified only as William told the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 19 that he believes a contractor and inconsistent county inspections left him out roughly $13,000 on window work and asked the county to investigate.
William said he paid $2,900 up front and now owes “a little bit more than $10,000, maybe 11,” and that he wants the county to enforce applicable building codes. “I just kinda lost $13,000 for windows that are… I was told, you know, 1 of the inspectors said… the person puts a shrimp right there and doesn't let the inspector inspect, but… it gets approved anyway,” he told commissioners during the public-comment period.
William referenced what he described as the building code—“chapter 24… 2403.3”—and said that when inspectors fail to follow the code, residents suffer. He also said he has been harassed with collection calls and that, for that reason, he often does not answer his phone. “They've been calling my house with different numbers and threatening me for payment. This harassment… I don't answer my phone,” he said.
A county staff member asked William to speak with JP Murphy and said staff would “piece it together and come back to the board and let you know what has happened.” Tammy (identified in the record) asked for William’s phone number so staff could follow up; William gave (813) 391-8249 and requested a reinspection.
The exchange in the public-comment portion did not include a formal motion or vote. The board did not announce any immediate enforcement action during the meeting; staff stated they would investigate the complaint and report back to the board.
At the close of the comment, county staff told William they would try to help and that they would report back to the board after consulting with JP Murphy and others.
