Staff presented the Branch Connection second-quarter report to the Senior Advisory Board, summarizing program participation, membership counts and financials for the period covering January–March (the city's defined second quarter includes those months).
The presenter said year-to-date revenue totaled $9,306, derived from membership fees, membership renewals and trip fees, and explained that revenue and participation were affected because Branch Connection programs were held at an alternate location during renovation. "We only been back in this building for a month exactly," the presenter said, noting the data reflect activity while the branch was operating at the recreation center.
Key quantitative items reported by staff included total scans for the fiscal second quarter of 6,129, total program participants of 5,789 across 231 programs, and year-to-date expenditures of $301,991 covering programming, staffing, instructor pay, cleaning, facility repairs and the VMS program. Staff reported current cost recovery at about 3% and said ongoing costs continued despite the temporary closure.
Board members pressed staff for membership trend context. Staff said pre-renovation membership was about 1,285, membership dipped during relocation to roughly 400–500 at times, and in the most recent report the count was about 1,188; reopening added roughly 31 memberships and staff said the total is now over 1,200. A board member asked whether renewals were returning or new members signing up; staff clarified that many were renewals (existing members whose memberships had lapsed) while some were new.
Staff said future reports should show increased revenue and participation now that the Branch Connection is back in its renovated building. There was no formal action on the report; board members asked follow-up questions and staff invited further questions for the next quarter.
