Canton Township planning staff asked the Planning Commission to set a public hearing and recommend corrections to the adopted master plan future land use map after three errors were identified during final map preparation by the consultant.
Erin (staff member) explained the three corrections staff proposes: add the medium‑density residential classification to the future land use table where it was omitted; restore the missing Special Planning Area No. 4 entry in the table that corresponds to the Michigan Avenue corridor nodes; and change the land‑use designation for a township‑owned parcel north of the Lower Rouge River (identified in the record as the Zeshwedogin Nature Area) from municipal to park.
Erin said the draft maps prepared and reviewed during the master plan process were correct but that errors were introduced when map layers were finalized by the consultant. She described the first two as legend/table errors that did not change the map graphic itself but required correcting the tables to match the map; the third error did change the map graphic because the parcel was displayed with a municipal designation rather than as park. Staff recommended setting a public hearing at the commission’s next available meeting; the commission voted to set that public hearing.
Staff said they had conducted QA/QC with interns and staff to confirm these were the only remaining issues and had consulted with township legal counsel’s recommended process (Foster Swift) to hold a public hearing and forward a recommendation to the township board to correct the adopted plan. The motion to set the public hearing to adopt the three corrections carried on a recorded vote with all commissioners present voting yes per the transcript.
