DeKalb County adopts Title VI, ADA grievance and nondiscrimination documents; names coordinator

DeKalb County commissioners on Aug. 18 approved a set of documents to comply with Title VI and the Americans with Disabilities Act, appointed a county staff member to serve as coordinator, and accepted grievance/complaint procedures required for state grant applications.
Dottie described the county’s need to have current nondiscrimination and accessibility documents in place so highway and other departments could pursue state grants: “So, it's 1 of those things that these 2 plans have to do with accessibility and nondiscrimination. And with the funds coming in from the state, Ben being able to apply for grants, these things need to be in place.”
The board considered Resolution 2025R11 (appointing the Title VI coordinator) and voted to adopt it. Commissioners also moved to accept the Title VI complaint procedures, the ADA grievance procedure and the county-wide nondiscrimination statement of policy; all motions carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: Several county programs and state grant applications (for example through INDOT) require up-to-date Title VI and ADA documentation. The board’s approvals establish internal responsibilities and a documented process for receiving and handling complaints and grievance submissions.
Next steps: The coordinator named in the resolution will be the custodian of the policies and will keep documents on file for grant applications and state reviews. Commissioners signed the nondiscrimination statement and asked staff to ensure copies are available to county departments and the public.
