The committee on appointments at its 8 a.m. session confirmed Mayor LeGrand’s appointment of Ken Miguel Cipriano to the Mobile GR Commission and discussed remaining vacancies across city boards and commissions.
Committee members welcomed the appointment and noted Cipriano’s ties to the First Ward and prior experience with Mobile GR staff. “I know he is also a past Mobile GR employee,” one committee member said, noting that his neighborhood (South Southwest part of the First Ward) was not previously represented on the board.
Staff member Ms. Bosker reviewed vacancies and said appointments to the Water System Advisory Council and Housing Appeal Board are expected in October, and noted several vacancies on the urban agriculture board and the South Division Granville Avenue area. Committee members discussed ward-specific appointments and a request from Commissioner Belcek to have access to a list of ward-specific appointments for which each commissioner is responsible to forward candidates.
Members scheduled a special meeting for the following Tuesday at 8:00 a.m. to discuss year-end appointments and background requirements; staff said that meeting will cover what background documentation is required of applicants and the committee’s process for filling positions. The committee adjourned at 8:03 a.m.
