Supervisors approve two resolutions abandoning roadway easements to private owners

Resolution 03-10-25-12 will abandon the county’s roadway easement on a parcel associated with Annette Wood; Resolution 03-10-25-13 will abandon a roadway easement on a parcel associated with Justin Carpenter. County staff said surveys and title reviews by the county auditor’s office and county staff had been completed and that the abandonments were Roman’s recommendation.
Under the motions, the county will execute quitclaim deeds and accept consideration of $1 for each easement conveyance. “Once this is cleared from the title of the easement, access is cleared out of the title of the property,” a county staff member explained during the meeting.
Vote: Both motions passed by roll call, 5-0. The motions were moved and seconded on the record (motion to approve Resolution 03-10-25-12 moved by Scott, second by Travis; Resolution 03-10-25-13 similarly approved by roll call).
Why it matters: County staff said abandoning the easements clears title issues that had been preventing sale or reconfiguration of the affected parcels; staff also noted surveys and legal reviews were on file.
Ending: County staff said they would prepare the quitclaim deeds and the auditor and board chair were authorized to sign the documents to complete the conveyances.
