Sayreville board approves tutoring contract, tech purchases and grant submissions

The Sayreville Board of Education on Dec. 17 approved the superintendent's report, which bundled multiple finance, infrastructure and personnel items including a tutoring contract, technology purchases and grant submissions.

The board approved a contract with Imagine Learning to provide tutoring for identified students in grades 4 and 5 at a cost of $17,472, funded through the district's high-impact tutoring grant. The board also approved purchases to replace staff laptops and student Chromebooks and to equip new TV studio labs and an esports lab planned for spring construction. An addendum item approved purchases of custodial machines totaling $61,360.

The meeting record shows the board accepted several community donations: 600 pumpkins valued at about $1,200 from Habiac Farms, distributed to Cheesquake and Salover schools, and donations of up to $500 to the Bombers Beyond program from local funeral homes. The administration also asked for permission to submit a 2025 Connect Safely grant application for $1,000.

Superintendent and business-administration staff framed the purchases as replacement and instructional investments tied to new and renamed courses at the high school and to facility maintenance. The finance presentation noted the purchases and contract were part of the district's capital and maintenance planning and linked to previously discussed timelines.

A motion to approve the superintendent's report passed. Board members recorded in the meeting as voting in favor included Mr. Callahan, Mr. Esposito, Mr. Fernandez, Mrs. Napolitano, Mrs. Pabon, Mrs. Pylock and Mr. Walsh. Board member Mrs. Bloom said she would abstain on check number 164591 but otherwise the package was approved.
