Senior advisory board sets Sept. 15 deadline to collect items for time capsule

The Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board set a new collection deadline of Sept. 15 for items to include in a planned Branch Connection time capsule, board members said.
The board first placed the time capsule on the agenda to continue planning and to collect items through the summer. Members said the capsule’s burial would occur during a September event if there is a suitable response; if not, the project will be deferred.
Board members discussed the types of items to include — event photos, coins from the veterans’ program and small mementos from trips — and emphasized labeling photos with names and descriptions so future readers can identify people and places. One member volunteered to test preservation methods for photographs; another offered storage space in the building for collected items until the capsule is sealed.
The board asked members to increase outreach to generate contributions and noted that if insufficient items are collected the capsule will not be completed for this year. No formal vote was required; the item will remain on future agendas until completion.
