Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Board elects chair and vice chair, welcomes new members

The Farmers Branch Parks and Recreation Board elected Adrienne Young to serve as chair and re-elected Steve to serve as vice chair for the 2025–26 term, the board announced during its regular meeting.

During introductions, existing members welcomed three newly seated board members and staff reviewed the board’s duties under Division 8 (section 2-216), which directs the Parks and Recreation Board to advise city council on parks and recreation policy and programming. After nominations and a voice vote, the board counted five votes for Adrienne Young to serve as chair; no formal tally was recorded for vice chair, which was uncontested and passed by motion and second.

Members also discussed whether to elect a secretary. Jennifer Nelson Smith said she would not continue as secretary; the board reached consensus not to fill the secretary role for the coming year rather than assigning it to an alternate. The board recorded the procedural corrections to the minutes: a motion to approve the minutes with a corrected meeting date (from 05/15/2025 to 06/19/2025) carried after Jan Waldridge moved and Christy seconded.

Board Chair-elect Adrienne Young told members she was happy to serve and noted her long involvement in Farmers Branch activities. Chair duties and expectations were discussed, and staff reminded members that the secretary’s notes are supplementary to the official, recorded minutes.

Ending: The board will proceed without a secretary for the 2025–26 year unless a volunteer steps forward; staff will continue to maintain official minutes and distribute board packages.
