The City Council on June 23 confirmed the annual engineer's report and ordered the levy and collection of assessments for the Point San Pedro Road Median Landscaping Assessment District for fiscal year 2025–26.
Bernadette Sullivan of Public Works told the council the district was formed in 2011 to reconstruct and maintain 29 medians along Point San Pedro Road. The district charges two components: an annual bond repayment (fixed at $58.70 per equivalent benefit unit, or EBU) and an operations-and-maintenance charge (proposed at $59, calculated using the San Francisco–Oakland Urban CPI), yielding a typical single-family home total of $117.70 for parcels that did not prepay the bond.
Sullivan said the median committee had raised concerns about declining tree health and increased weeds; in response, the city has asked the landscape contractor, Gardeners Guild, to add crews and step up maintenance at no additional cost to the city. If performance does not improve, staff said the city can terminate the contract and work with the community committee to hire an alternate contractor.
After a public hearing with no speakers, the council adopted the resolution confirming the engineer's report and ordering the levy for FY 2025–26 by a 4–0 vote.
