The Chickasaw County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution authorizing execution of a bridge-replacement contract for project BRSCO1911960-19 and delegated authority to the county engineer to sign the contract documents.
County staff presented the Iowa Department of Transportation letting and the low bid from Mineral Construction Inc. for $1,599,694.69. County engineering staff said the department’s engineer estimate had been $1,725,158; the low bid was about 92.7% of that estimate and roughly $125,000 under estimate. The next-lowest bidder’s price was read as approximately $1,781,000.
Omar (County Engineer) recommended award to the low bidder and asked the board to approve a resolution (33-25-O70) delegating contract signing authority so the contract can move to full execution. A motion to approve the resolution passed; the board recorded the motion as "passed 4 to 0 with 1%" in the meeting record.
Discussion: The county engineer said favorable bidding relative to estimates allows the county to move savings to another bridge project at a future letting. No member raised legal objections; staff will proceed with contract execution and notify the contractor.
Action: Supervisors approved the resolution delegating contract-execution authority and the county engineer will finalize contract paperwork on behalf of Chickasaw County.
