The Board of Public Works approved a temporary road closure and night-work noise permit Oct. 7 to allow a contractor to tap the city water main for the Baxter Village subdivision, scheduling two overnight operations on Oct. 14 and 20 to limit daytime traffic disruption on East Moores Pike.
Engineering staff said the tap is necessary to provide water service to an 18- or 19-lot single-family subdivision. Night work was proposed so the detour would not affect schools and daily peak traffic; the work is scheduled during fall break to reduce impacts on Monroe County Community School Corporation routes.
Staff said the permit will not be issued until the contractor provides confirmation that nearby residents and adjacent homeowners have been notified; the city asked that notifications include engineering on the email distribution and suggested in-person or door-knock outreach in addition to email. A member of the public asked the board to reiterate potential negative impacts; staff described the impacts as temporary construction inconvenience with detours during closure periods.
A board member moved to approve the closure and night-work permit; the motion passed with recorded aye votes from Roach and Caron.
