A resident told the Barnstable School Committee May 7 that a stretch of Pitchers Way lacks sidewalks and creates safety risks for children walking to and from school and for families who walk in the neighborhood.
The resident identified the location as 320–326 Pitchers Way and said cars often speed on the residential route, creating a "very scary" situation when children exit homes. "I'm always scared," the resident said, describing morning and evening walks with a 4-year-old and a 13-year-old.
Committee members advised the resident the Town Council handles sidewalks but said the district would forward the safety concern to transportation staff and the appropriate town officials. Jen said, "I think that your comments will be better heard at the town council meetings because we do only school stuff," and provided information on council meeting times and contact procedures.
District staff and committee members said they would follow up: "We'll certainly follow-up, you know, just taking a look at that particular intersection and those specific transportation routes to make sure that ... they're safe," one member said. The committee did not take formal action at the meeting; public comment was closed after the resident spoke.
