Council appoints four to Culture and Leisure Services Board after interviews

The City Council of Cape Canaveral appointed four residents to the Culture and Leisure Services Board at its Aug. 20 meeting, approving Resolution 202405 by unanimous vote.

Council heard short interviews from four recommended applicants during the meeting’s presentation segment: Brad Prevell, Tina Freeman, Virginia Scott and James (Jamie) Stobbe. Each applicant answered standard questions about their interest in serving and their qualifications; several council members thanked the applicants for volunteering.

Staff recommended filling two regular seats with Brad Prevell and Tina Freeman and naming Virginia Scott and James Stobbe as alternates. Council moved to adopt Resolution 202405 naming Prevell and Freeman as members and Scott and Stobbe as alternates; the resolution passed 5-0. The council asked staff to notify the appointees of their appointments and direct each to complete any required onboarding steps.

Applicants described community ties and relevant experience. Prevell said he wants the leisure department to broaden programming beyond athletics to include arts and cultural activities to attract young families. Freeman, a long-time property owner and retired communications professional, said she brings experience in collaboration, marketing and working on “working boards” that support programming and fundraising. Alternate appointees told council they will stay informed and serve when called.

Council members praised the applicants’ willingness to serve and said they expect the board to help expand recreation and cultural programming to better serve residents and young families. The appointments were ratified under Resolution 202405 and staff was directed to complete appointment letters and onboarding.
