Beauregard board authorizes superintendent to seek $100,000 state grant for DeRidder Elementary pavement

The Beauregard Parish School Board voted Wednesday to authorize the superintendent to sign documents seeking a $100,000 state grant to pay for pavement work at DeRidder Elementary School.

The board approved a written resolution that said DeRidder Elementary had been determined eligible “for assistance in the amount of $100,000 through Act 461 of the 2025 regular legislative session of the Louisiana Legislature.” A staff member read the resolution aloud before the vote.

The resolution instructs the superintendent to sign “all applicable documents pursuant to securing the grant funds for the purpose of the provided pavement at the DeRidder Elementary School,” according to the text read at the meeting.

Board member Mr. Bowman moved to approve the resolution; Jill Restor seconded. The motion passed on a voice vote with no nays recorded.

The board did not discuss detailed project timing, contractor selection, or whether the work would be done before the end of the school year. The resolution, as read, authorizes the superintendent to execute paperwork needed to request and accept the grant if it is awarded.

The resolution cites Act 461 of the 2025 Regular Legislative Session as the source of the assistance. The board also noted eligibility had been determined prior to the meeting but did not provide the eligibility paperwork during the public meeting.

No additional public comment or departmental presentation on project specifications or schedule was made during the motion and vote.
