The Village of Weston Board of Trustees unanimously appointed Mark Kern to fill a trustee vacancy on Monday, voting to seat him for the unexpired term ending April 20, 2026.
Kern, who volunteered for the appointment after applying for an earlier vacancy, told trustees he was prompted by family to "get off the sidelines" and offered his background in construction and process improvement as a reason he could contribute. "I have a great background in construction and engineering," Kern said during a short interview with trustees. "I've always tried to do better and grow."
The trustees moved to appoint Kern by motion and voice vote; the board chair called for "all those in favor, say aye," and the motion carried. After the vote, Kern was administered the oath of office at the meeting and posed for photographs with board members.
The appointment follows the board's stated procedure for filling vacancies by application and interview. Trustees said the interview and appointment process was handled at the meeting with public notice and a single applicant under consideration.
Meeting materials show the unexpired term runs through April 20, 2026, and Kern provided a local address for the record when introducing himself. The board did not take additional actions tied to the appointment at the same meeting.
Kern will serve alongside the existing trustees until the expiration of the term; the board did not announce any committee assignments at the meeting.
