Archaeological commission delays Belize Creek Vineyard rezone after disputes over survey scope

Mendocino County’s Archaeological Commission on Oct. 8 agreed to continue a proposed general plan amendment and rezoning for Belize Creek Vineyard LLC to its Nov. 12 meeting after commissioners and the applicant disagreed about the scope and documentation of a recent archaeological survey.
The commission’s planners said two archaeological reports are in the project packet but that the most recent survey, prepared Aug. 26, 2025, covered only two small areas of the parcels. Agent Jerry Rinko told the commission, “We could not find a biologist to study this entire parcel or a archaeologist to study this entire parcel. It's too big.”
