Board flags graffiti, goat-head burrs, missing screws and facilities gaps in recent park inspections

Ocean Shores Parks Board members reported multiple maintenance issues across city parks during the board's monthly inspection reports, including goat-head burrs in dog-park areas, graffiti and rust on playground surfaces, missing screws on skatepark equipment, faded signage, parking-lot weeds, and an unreplaced bathroom at the TechSmart/Skatepark site.
Kristen relayed a resident's report that goat-head burrs were prevalent in the small-dog side of the Chinook dog park; she said she contacted city staff about a commercially sized "lint-roller" tool purchased for removing goat-head burrs and that staff will check availability for cleanup. Several board members (Paul Winchester, Robert Doring and Laura Onan) reported dog-head burrs and overgrown vegetation at multiple parks and recommended targeted cleanup.
Laura Onan reported graffiti and rust on playground slides near the Milo Schneider/Lions Club area, a missing information-display light, litter and potholes in an approach driveway and rusted swing-chain fittings; she recommended immediate cleaning and maintenance and suggested motion-sensing lights and tamper-proof fixtures for lighting.
Robert Doring and other members inspected the TechSmart/Skatepark area and noted faded signage, missing screws in the metal banding of the half pipe, loose panels stored against the half pipe and that a bathroom destroyed previously has not been replaced. Board members discussed the screws and rust pattern and agreed to re-check hardware and replace missing fasteners as needed.
Becky Leach, project manager, told the board Emerson Park benches and a water fountain are scheduled for 2026 work. The city still holds replacement backboards and nets for basketball courts; the board will keep that item on the list so it is not overlooked.
Board members recommended follow-up maintenance tasks be assigned to public works and to confirm installation dates for ordered parts. No formal motions were taken; the items were listed for action and inspection at future meetings.
