Urbana, Champaign to share Wright Street resurfacing; Champaign to lead engineering and bidding

Public Works staff presented an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the City of Champaign to coordinate resurfacing of Wright Street — the street that divides the two cities — for the segment north of OSF from Church Street to Dublin Avenue.
Staff said Champaign will be the lead agency for design and bidding; Champaign will run the engineering and construction contract and seek reimbursement from Urbana for Urbana’s share of costs. The work is part of Champaign’s resurfacing program; staff said the roadway condition is poor and that the segment is a bus route and a major collector. The railroad grade crossing in the segment was recently rebuilt by the railroad, which staff said will reduce the scope and cost of the city’s work.
Council placed the resolution authorizing the IGA on the consent agenda for the regular council meeting; staff said the project had been included in the CIP and that the IGA does not increase the previously budgeted cost.
