City Clerk Darcey Sanderford called a public hearing at 7 p.m. on Dec. 2 to consider a proposed property tax increase for the City of Urbana for tax year 2024.
Sanderford read the estimate of levies into the record: the corporate and special service property taxes extended or abated for 2023 were $10,146,896; the proposed corporate and special service property tax to be levied for 2024 is $12,100,696 — a 19.26% increase. Sanderford said estimated property taxes for debt service and public building commission leases remain $0 for 2023 and 2024.
The clerk announced procedures for public testimony and provided contact information for the clerk’s office. After allowing time for in‑person and remote comment, the hearing record shows no public testimony was presented during the hearing; the meeting then recessed and later reconvened.
