Council accepts mayoral advisory committee priorities to guide policy and budget discussions

The Ithaca Common Council committee on Aug. 20 accepted the 2025–2026 mayoral advisory committees’ priorities and moved the acceptance to the consent agenda. Alderperson Saint Perez presented the item and the committee advanced it unanimously.
Saint Perez described the priorities as a first step in a process that will inform future budget and legislative proposals: “These are a number of ad hoc committees that were established by council pursuant to, chapter 4 of the Ithaca City code, around policy areas, that are outlined here,” he said, explaining the committees met in informal nonvoting groups to shape high-level strategic priorities.
The document lists committee memberships and high-level goals; staff and council members said the priorities will form the basis for later, more detailed conversations about funding, tactical implementation and specific legislative proposals. “The idea being we wanna provide clear, understandable, and achievable, and coherent visions and goals, that the administration can readily speak to as it brings forward proposals for council's consideration,” Saint Perez said.
Councilors noted there will be continued opportunity to refine the priorities and to engage the public and staff as planning proceeds. The item was moved to the consent agenda for the September meeting.
