District reports preliminary Title I and IV allocations; Titles II and III still pending

Janine (district staff) briefed the board on federal Title allocations and the potential impact of pending federal funding reviews. She said the district’s preliminary Title I allocation is $115,617 and Title IV allocation is $10,000. Allocations for Titles II and III were still pending at the time of the meeting; staff said state notification indicated the funds were “under review” and that the district should be notified shortly.
Janine explained how each federal title is generally used: Title I for academic support and additional reading/math help targeted to schools with higher percentages of students from low‑income households; Title II for professional development; Title III for English language learners; and Title IV for student support and academic enrichment (arts, STEM, mental health, translation services). She described prior use of carryover funds for literacy training (Wilson Foundations and Wilson Just Words) and noted carryover balances originating from COVID‑era flexibility had been used for multi‑year training efforts.
The presenter said carryover money must be used this funding year (noting the requirement to expend by the 2025‑26 year) and identified uses under consideration if Title IV continues to be available, including translator support and supplemental guidance‑counselor functions tied to the Leader in Me program. She also put a memorandum from the New York Attorney General’s office (dated July 29) into the public record reminding federal fund recipients of nondiscrimination obligations tied to federal funding.
Board members asked clarifying questions about program continuity, multiyear training and how Title‑funded professional development is renewed. Janine said district staff plan to submit required grant narratives and allocations when the remaining titles are announced and will return with details once allocations are finalized.
