City staff told the Ocean Shores Parks Board that cameras planned for North Bay Park and the skate park must be integrated with the municipal IT system, that solar-light and lighting-timer work is underway, and that several park facilities need repair or retrofit.
The integration requirement affects camera choice and installation: the cameras must tie into the city’s existing recording and storage systems so footage can be reviewed in real time and retained for public-records requests, staff said.
Scott (Parks Board member) reported that Xander, the city’s IT specialist, is preparing a quote for the infrastructure required to integrate cameras. Staff said fiber-optic connectivity would be the preferred option but may not be available for up to a year; interim options and outside IT consultants are being priced. Staff noted that the city must retain footage for 30 days to comply with public-records and law-enforcement needs.
Board members discussed repeated vandalism at the skate park and the need for bathrooms and water fountains. Scott said the skate-park cameras have been operating with two angles for nearly 90 days and that bathrooms at the site have been vandalized multiple times. The Emerson Park drinking fountain cannot be installed by the water department in its current configuration because the hookup is different from Chinook Park; staff said that will likely push installation to the spring and raise the cost.
On lighting, staff said North Bay lighting has been updated with a timer set to turn lights off at 10 p.m. after resident complaints about late-night illumination; staff will monitor complaints and timers over the coming week.
On court and equipment repairs, staff said North Bay and Chinook basketball courts require asphalt overlay repairs that are not currently budgeted, and that recently purchased backboards for North Bay require welding or retrofitting to fit existing poles; the backboards are in storage pending fabrication and installation.
Direction and next steps: IT will collect quotes for an integrated camera solution; Schumacher Electric was asked to provide an installation quote for solar lights; public works will follow up on backboard retrofitting and on scheduling fountain installation in spring; staff will monitor lights and public complaints.
No formal votes were taken on these items; staff were directed to return with quotes and timelines.
