District staff told trustees that BBMR and CareClicker will again donate winter clothing to Bear Valley Unified students, providing jackets, socks, beanies and gloves.
A district representative said the two organizations previously donated items that were placed in backpacks, which made it difficult to see what students received; the donors will instead bring the items to campus and operate a distribution modeled as a store so students can choose what they need. The district said the donors will bring the items to school sites rather than delivering them to district offices.
A staff member who spoke about the donation said the donation quantities or values vary; in the meeting a speaker referenced “25 to 28,000” when describing support levels, but did not specify whether that figure represented dollars or counts. The board did not take additional formal action on the donation at this meeting; staff indicated the donors will distribute items directly at sites.
Board members thanked staff and the donors for the support and said the arrangement should make it easier for students to obtain needed winter clothing.
