Facilities update: Oldham County reports substantial completions and summer‑2025 target for elementary site work

Oldham County's director of facilities told the school board on Sept. 23 that several construction projects have reached substantial completion while others remain active, and staff previewed upcoming design approvals.
Mister Bohannon, director of facilities, said the district had "reached substantial completion on both the career tech renovations" at Oldham County Middle School and South Oldham Middle School and that the district had training planned for installed equipment. He said construction continues at the preschool, where the district is operating under a temporary certificate of occupancy while masonry work on an addition continues.
The nut graf: district officials reported the soccer fields and bleachers at North Oldham High School and Oldham County High School are in use under temporary certificates of occupancy for practices and games while work continues on concessions and press boxes; elementary playground and site-accessibility upgrades are underway with an anticipated substantial completion across schools in July 2025.
Bohannon said contractors had started utility locates and site access work at remaining elementary schools and that playground equipment and play surfaces are pending. He told the board that the Kimwood roof replacement is substantially complete and that demolition at Liberty is substantially complete.
On near-term board actions, Bohannon said the district will return to the board next month with design-phase approvals for Oldham County High School and construction-document approvals for Buckner Alternative and OCHS projects; South Oldham High School will return in design development. During the facilities discussion the superintendent noted an ongoing conversation with KDE (Kentucky Department of Education) and district staff about possibly changing the name of Buckner Alternative High School to "Buckner High School" as part of planning, and said that would not change the school's purpose.
Board members raised a separate safety concern observed at a recent Oldham County football game about children climbing on stadium structures; Bohannon and staff said administrative measures and outreach to families were options to reduce the risk. No formal votes were taken on facilities items at this meeting; project approvals were described as forthcoming.
The district did not set final completion dates for all items beyond the July 2025 target for elementary site work.
