The Tupelo City Council authorized purchase of a blighted property at 508 Brown Street for $20,000 and discussed plans to demolish the house and split the lot into three parcels for sale.

"508 Brown Street is a blighted property. It's an older home, that a tree's fallen on. It needs to be demolished," Tanner told the council, adding that the negotiated purchase price is $20,000.

Tanner said the city plans to demolish the structure and split the parcel into three individual lots intended to be sold for three single-family homes in East Tupelo. Councilors moved and seconded the purchase authorization and the motion passed.

No timeline for demolition or resale was given during the meeting, and council discussion on financing or specific resale plans was not recorded.
