Board OKs $12,302 change order after unmarked gas line found during downtown alley work

The Board of Public Works approved a $12,302 change order on July 15 for downtown alley renovations after crews uncovered an unmarked gas line that required reengineering of stormwater infrastructure.
Adam Wason, public works director, said the unmarked gas line was found during pre-excavation work on the downtown alley running between Fourth and Kirkwood, Indiana and Grant. "We then had to reengineer some plans to, get that, get the stormwater infrastructure that we're planning to put in, changed in location and such," Wason said. He described the change order covering labor, equipment and materials for excavation and removal of the old alley structure under the revised plan and gave the amount as $12,302.
Wason said the amended not-to-exceed amount for the entire project is now $176,622.43. The board approved the change order by roll call; Roach and Carone recorded "aye." Staff will incorporate the change order into project costs and proceed with the revised excavation and stormwater work.
