Commissioner Mohammed reported to the Town of Pembroke Park Commission that a recent trip to Washington, D.C., resulted in several potential funding and program leads for the town, including disaster-relief grants, small-business support and technology approaches to procurement.
Mohammed said one contact, Islamic Relief USA, offers disaster-recovery assistance and grant opportunities up to $70,000 that could help the town with storm-related housing repairs. Mohammed also mentioned Synchrony Bank as a potential source of low-cost government loans for infrastructure projects and said information about a $70,000 disaster-relief grant was shared with town staff.
Mohammed told commissioners that a system for automatically notifying police of shots-fired events — described in the meeting as an automatic notification and statistical-reporting system used by Hallandale Beach and Miramar — was among the technologies discussed for possible local adoption. Mohammed also referenced grants through LISC (Local Initiatives Support Corporation) or similar programs for small-business development.
Mohammed said the delegation found examples of automated procurement technology used by another government entity (referred to in the meeting as “GAS”) that uses artificial intelligence to standardize vendor comparisons and streamline contracting, and that he would work with town IT and department heads to explore adoption.
Commissioners asked for the materials to be shared with staff; Mohammed said he had already forwarded information and that staff would follow up on opportunities. No formal motions or budget actions were taken during the report.
