At its Aug. 25 meeting the Lauderhill City Commission took several ceremonial actions recognizing long‑time local contributors, and it considered a related street‑naming request that was tabled pending association action.
Commissioner John T. (recorded as Commissioner John T.) moved and the commission unanimously approved a resolution renaming Northwest 40 Second Way as Charles Booth Way in honor of Charles E. Booth and his family’s long‑running business, Charlie’s Pastries. Charles Booth Jr. and other family members spoke in support; Booth Jr. recalled the bakery’s history in Lauderhill and the family’s community giving. The motion passed 5–0.
The commission also unanimously approved a resolution awarding a key to the city to Edie (Eddie) Campbell in recognition of more than two decades of service to vulnerable residents and community programs; the vote was 5–0. Several speakers described Campbell’s longtime philanthropic work, including offering housing and scholarships, and commissioners presented a framed copy of the resolution and plans to schedule a formal presentation and photograph when a commemorative street sign is ready.
Separately, commissioners discussed naming the street where Campbell’s home (Agape Love) is located after her. Homeowners‑association representatives from the Broward Estates / Saint George area told the commission their bylaws prohibit renaming streets without a community process. Mister Wilkerson, president of the homeowners association, explained the association’s bylaws require a community vote to amend naming provisions. The city attorney said he would research the bylaws and the commission tabled the street‑naming item (14b) for further discussion; the motion to table passed 5–0.
Outcome: Charles Booth Way renaming and the key to the city for Eddie Campbell were both approved 5–0. The proposal to rename the street in Broward Estates was tabled to permit the association and city staff to follow the HOA process and, if necessary, amend bylaws or secure a community vote before a future city action.
