The Village of Weston Planning Commission voted Monday to rezone the Prohaska Park property at the corner of Weston Avenue and Ryan Street from AR (Agricultural and Residential) and RR-5 (Rural Residential, 5 acres) to PR (Parks and Recreation).
The rezoning affects roughly 80 acres that the village previously acquired, including two 40-acre parcels and an additional smaller parcel obtained in a land-swap. The move was described by staff as a formality to match the parcel’s classification with other village-owned park properties.
At the meeting, a staff presenter explained that the rezoning had been waiting for a comprehensive-plan map amendment and that the action would put Prohaska Park into the same PR district used for the village’s other parks. Commissioners worked through the plan-commission determination form required by Wisconsin statutes, including whether a mapping error, changed conditions or altered growth patterns justified the change. The commission identified the most applicable reason as a changed condition or new data that made the PR designation more appropriate.
Commissioner Mumper made the motion to recommend approval; Commissioner Gert seconded. With no further discussion, the commission voted in favor and carried the motion.
The rezoning recommendation now proceeds per the village process for final adoption and administrative updates to the official zoning map. No public comments were offered during the hearing.
