Freestone County commissioners approved a change to the early-voting polling place for Fairfield Precinct 1 and confirmed locations for precinct polling places for the November constitutional election.
The court moved the early-voting location from the Green Barn to the Fairfield Justice of the Peace courtroom at 440 East Main Street because the previously booked site was unavailable on a day of early voting. Commissioners said staff will post notices at the Green Barn and arrange for personnel there to direct voters who arrive unaware of the change.
The court also read the list of Election Day polling sites for each precinct: Fairfield Precinct 1 at Justice of the Peace courtroom, 440 East Main; Precinct 2 at Fairfield Church of God in Christ; Precinct 3 at Downey Community Center; Precinct 4 at Toptengen VFD building; Precinct 5 at TIG; Precinct 6 at Caney Baptist Church; Precinct 7 at Worthen Fire Department; Precinct 8 at Southern Oaks Clubhouse; Precinct 9 at Church of Christ; Precinct 10 at Freestone Community Center; Precinct 11 at E.E. Wheat Memorial Center; Precinct 13 at Dew School Library; Precinct 15 at Street City Hall.
Separately, the court discussed surplus election items described as stacks of equipment kept in a back area. A commissioner said an elections judge had expressed interest in the items after training and the court asked staff to consider offers; photos of the items were examined in the meeting. The court did not approve a sale during the meeting but directed staff to follow up on interest and to bring recommendations back to the court.
The court approved the polling-place notice by motion and carried it by voice vote.
