Martin County commissioners approved a continuing services contract for routine bridge construction and maintenance work to Ferrera Construction Company on Tuesday.
Chief procurement officer Christie Brotherton told the board the agreement carries a maximum not‑to‑exceed value of $5 million over five years; individual work orders under the contract will not exceed $300,000 in accordance with Florida statute. Public Works Director Jim Gordon said the contract will be used primarily to address maintenance items identified during biennial bridge inspections and other smaller repair projects.
The board voted to award the contract to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder and authorized the county administrator or designee to execute related documents. Commissioner Heatherington announced she would abstain before the vote, citing a filed form 8B conflict; the motion passed 3–0 with one abstention.
