The Town of Bluff voted to approve a letter of support for the Bears Ears Partnership’s efforts to obtain Bureau of Reclamation / arts-and-recreation funding for summer camps for San Juan County youth.
A councilmember moved to approve the letter; another seconded and council voted. One member stated, “I’ll abstain since I work here,” and the clerk recorded four yes votes, no votes and one abstention.
Speakers at the meeting spoke in favor of the program’s benefits. One councilmember said, “It's a great program. It is important. In the years that Santiago has participated in it, I know that there have been multiple kids… who have got to go on a road trip that have never had an opportunity like that presented to them.”
The motion carried by majority with one abstention. Council did not direct additional funding or make further commitments; the action was limited to approving a letter of support.
