The City Council approved Phase 1 of an operations and use plan for Pritchard Auditorium that opens the facility for weekday community recreation hours and establishes a membership-driven access model, staff said.
Ryan presented the plan and described Phase 1 as a soft launch that would expand hours on weekdays (targeting afternoon and evening use, with staffed front-desk coverage) and offer drop-in activities such as open gym, basketball and volleyball. Staff said membership passes will go on sale in December and become active Jan. 1, with pricing to be finalized before public sale; a daily drop-in fee will also be available, staff said.
Phase 1 is intended to capture underused weekday hours, provide low-cost recreation opportunities for youth during winter months and maintain rental options for organizations and schools. Staff said they will manage a shared calendar so the public can see when the facility is reserved for rentals versus open drop-in use. The council recorded a motion to approve the operational list and the transcript shows a 7-yes vote approving the item.
Staff said Phase 2 will revisit rental fee structure and interlocal agreements for schools and city recreation programs to ensure priority access and appropriate rates.
