Aurora renews Sun Life basic group and retiree life insurance for 2026

The Aurora City Finance Committee on Sept. 25 approved renewal of employer-paid basic life insurance and retiree basic life coverage with Sun Life for calendar year 2026.
Brian Caputo, director of operations management, said the primary life and accidental death policy (employer-paid coverage at one times salary) and the retiree basic life benefit ($5,000 for retirees up to age 65) will continue under Sun Life at largely the same rates as 2025. Caputo said one component (additional coverage) rose modestly but overall cost impact was small—about $125 per month for that supplemental piece—and that staff intends to rebid the coverage for 2027.
The committee approved the resolution unanimously.
