Neighborhood Services said it is developing a neighborhood outreach program to support older neighborhoods and residents who cannot physically perform yard work, director Tracy Lira said on PV in Focus.

Lira said the department wants to create partnerships with neighborhood groups, faith-based organizations and volunteers to stage clean-up events. "We want to start more partnerships with our neighborhoods and create more events where we can maybe bring out dumpsters," she said.

She described a mobile "toolbox" the town can deploy with equipment such as weed-eaters and lawnmowers. The intent is to enable targeted, in-neighborhood assistance for seniors, people with disabilities and other residents who need help maintaining yards or removing debris.

Lira said Neighborhood Services has worked with churches and community organizations on similar efforts and is expanding the approach. She invited volunteers to contact the department to assist with events.

The plan remains in development; Neighborhood Services said it will share schedules and sign-up information on the town website when events are finalized.
