Prescott Valley to pilot low-to-moderate-income spay/neuter program with Chino Valley Animal Hospital

The Town of Prescott Valley plans a pilot spay and neuter program targeted at low-to-moderate-income households, Neighborhood Services director Tracy Lira said during a PV in Focus interview.
"We're hoping to roll out this program where residents, if they're needing to get their animals spay, they can apply online and they do have to qualify income wise," Lira said. She said the pilot will use income qualification charts to focus assistance on households with financial need.
Approved applicants will take animals to Chino Valley Animal Hospital, which has partnered with the town to perform spay and neuter surgeries. Lira said the partnership will also provide vaccinations and microchipping as part of the service.
Lira described the pilot as a test to gauge demand and logistics. "Again, it's just a pilot so we're testing it out low to moderate income," she said. The town said it hopes the program will reduce the number of unwanted animals by making procedures affordable to residents who otherwise cannot pay.
