The Lapeer City DDA voted to approve up to $3,000 to secure DJ services for the Back to the Bricks event scheduled for Aug. 6.
The action followed discussion about two options: use the DJ provided by the Back to the Bricks organizer (Scotty Cool), which would be no direct cost to the DDA, or hire the longtime car‑cruise DJ, Bill Young of Young’s Entertainment, who has historically supported the city event. Board members said Young knows the cruisers and has experience with large footprints and events; Young estimated a fee in the range of $2,500 to $3,000 depending on equipment rental and footprint.
Board members agreed hiring Young would preserve continuity for the car cruise and help maintain the event’s appeal. The DDA moved to authorize up to $3,000 to secure the preferred DJ, with staff to pursue sponsorships and to execute or amend the budget as needed; a budget amendment will be completed after sponsorships and final costs are confirmed.
The motion passed by voice vote. Meeting participants said Back to the Bricks will limit food trucks and vendors to emphasize local brick‑and‑mortar businesses; organizers expect a very large turnout and estimated thousands of cars for the cruise.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract details with the DJ, pursue sponsorships to offset costs, and process any required budget amendment before final payment.
