Several residents used the public‑comment period at the Oct. 1 Ottawa City Commission meeting to raise infrastructure and safety concerns, including problems at the local golf course and a recurring roadway and drainage issue at 811 Liberty Street.
Greg Hazen, a public commenter, said he has repeatedly sought city assistance over golf balls flying onto adjacent streets and fences and questioned whether the course is truly public. He urged the city to act and said if necessary OSHA or ADA authorities should be involved to address safety concerns.
Joseph Hazen described long‑running problems at 811 Liberty Street, including an overflowing ditch after rain, a tree line encroaching into the roadway with falling limbs, a collapsed culvert under a driveway and a persistent pothole outside his driveway. He said he has shown GIS maps to city staff and was told the right of way extends through his property; staff previously told him the issue was his responsibility, which he disputed. He said he has paid out of pocket to place gravel that washes away and asked the city to fix the culvert and roadway.
City staff asked for the property address and engaged with the speakers during and after comments; the meeting record shows staff acknowledged the complaints but did not adopt a formal motion or schedule a follow‑up at the public meeting. The commission did not take immediate formal action during the meeting.
