The commission also set a Sept. 15 public hearing to consider abating or removing dangerous structures at multiple addresses. Staff provided a list to be noticed to owners and lien holders; the addresses named in the meeting record were: 918 North Gordy, 920 North Gordy, 937 Oak, 1500 West Second, 1015 North Taylor, 610 West Tenth, 501 West Twelfth, 502 West Twelfth and 1125 North Walnut. Staff told the commission three of the properties are linked to recent flooding while the others were described as unsafe structures.
On budget items, staff presented the excess sales‑tax committee recommendations for inclusion in the 2026 budget. The commission approved the committee’s recommendations but agreed to withhold the $300,000 proposed for a youth recreation facility until the civic‑center decision is finalized. Commission discussion also referenced the Gordy Park Pavilion and a separate band‑shell preservation decision: staff said the pavilion project had funding in place from a prior year and that an appraisal and preservation plan for the band shell will be available in the coming weeks; the commission will consider final allocation once staff returns with that appraisal and additional citizen input.
All three procedures — setting the RHID hearing, scheduling the dangerous‑structure hearing and approving the excess sales‑tax recommendations (with the youth facility funds held) — were approved by voice vote during the meeting. Staff said notices will be mailed to property owners and lien holders for the dangerous‑structure hearings and that owners are encouraged to meet with staff before the public hearing.
Less critical details: staff noted some properties under consideration were damaged in the June 3 flood and that the city continues outreach related to community relief funds (17 applications to date).
