Commission approves $5,100 Garden City share for Great Plains Development membership

Garden City approved on Aug. 19 a $5,100 membership payment to Great Plains Development Inc., the city’s share of the organization’s $10,200 regional membership fee.
Sue Lynn introduced the item and corrected an agenda error that listed the amount as $43.50; she said the correct city share is $5,100. Great Plains’ representative Bob Wetmore said the organization assists with loan packaging, grant preparation, letters of support and other economic development services for the 28-county region it serves, and introduced associate director Hannah Sparks who described training and programming supports.
Wetmore summarized regional activity, saying Great Plains tracked 23 loan inquiries, 14 applications and nine loan awards in about the past 18 months and that Great Plains can package state and federal grants and loan options for city and county applicants. Commissioners asked about program benefits; Wetmore and Lynn described results and services. The commission voted to approve the membership agreement and payment.
