Upper Darby honors dozens of AP Scholars and announces categories at Aug. 26 board meeting

Superintendent Dr. McGarry recognized dozens of Upper Darby High School students on Aug. 26 who earned Advanced Placement distinctions in 2025, including AP Scholar, AP Scholar with Honor and AP Scholar with Distinction awards.
Dr. McGarry reviewed the College Board criteria for the awards: an AP Scholar receives scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams; AP Scholar with Honor requires an average score of at least 3.25 and scores of 3 or higher on four or more exams; and AP Scholar with Distinction requires an average score of at least 3.5 and scores of 3 or higher on five or more exams.
He called forward students present at the meeting for recognition. Students named as AP Scholars or higher included (listed as announced): Fariz Abdulah; Rommel Alman; Mohib Almas; Sylvia Langston; Nahin Nafi; Muntahar Nahid; Brian Nguyen; Mohammed Sami; Areej Shayab; Mist Tayaba (AP Scholar with Honor); Tahanim Tasim; Shamaya Akhtar; Sierra Brown (AP Scholar with Distinction); Nick Fitzpatrick (AP Scholar with Distinction); Mark Hodges (AP Scholar with Distinction); Anjali John (AP Scholar with Distinction); Khandekar Mahin (AP Scholar with Distinction); and others announced at the meeting. Dr. McGarry invited students present to come forward for a photograph with board leadership.
The board did not take action related to the awards; this was a recognition item in the superintendent’s report. The district noted additional honorees and full lists are part of the meeting record and available on BoardDocs.
