A student in the Binghamton City School District told meeting attendees that she has been singing since kindergarten and has been selected for All‑State this year, crediting the school music program with providing performance and learning opportunities.
The student said the district program helped her grow musically and socially, offering experiences beyond regular classes that include regional and state competitions. She described learning foreign-language repertoire and working with peers in ensemble settings, and said the program is “a really comfortable space and a safe spot for everyone.”
The student summarized her background: she formerly played in orchestra but is now “fully focused on singing,” has participated in All‑County and All‑State events and in NYSSMA competitions, and has learned pieces in Italian and Spanish. She said performing with friends at All‑State was challenging but rewarding and that she has already met some personal goals. “My next goal is to hopefully sing it for graduation,” she said, referring to the school’s national‑anthem performance, and added she intends to keep music in her life after high school instead of dropping it.
Remarks occurred as a first‑person testimony and did not include any formal motions or requests for action. No funding figures, policy changes, or administrative directives were proposed during the comments.
