Redmond highlights Sept. 18 Downtown Art Walk, commission openings and transit service changes

Allen said the annual Downtown Redmond Art Walk will take place Sept. 18 in Downtown Redmond. The free, arts-centered event will bring together local artists and businesses for an evening of exhibitions and activities; attendees are encouraged to stop by Downtown Redmond Park to meet members of the City Council.
The city said poems by local writers will be shared on postcards at participating restaurants as part of the celebration led by the city’s poet laureate, Chingy Chen. Allen characterized the project as a way to “celebrate Redmond's poetic spirit.”
Redmond is recruiting applicants for one midterm commissioner vacancy and one youth advocate position on the Parks, Trails and Recreation Commission. Applicants must live within the 98052 ZIP code; the city set a Friday, Sept. 12 deadline to apply, Allen said.
Allen also announced a service boost from King County Metro that began Aug. 30. The changes include new and adjusted routes intended to better serve Eastside communities and to improve connections to Sound Transit’s 2 Line light rail stations, the city said. The city advised residents to visit the city website for details on specific route changes.
On regional-event planning, Allen said, “we're excited to be planning for next year's FIFA World Cup,” noting the city is preparing for the event; no additional details or timelines were given in the announcement.
