The Ellensburg City Council approved a resolution Aug. 18 providing enforcement of the city’s historic “double cross” ordinance after a Rotary volunteer described the tradition and community fundraising tied to rodeo buttons.
Diane Tasker, speaking for Rotary Cowboys at public comment, described the event tradition and fundraising: “The money from the buttons do go back to the youth organizations in the community that we support,” she said, urging council to approve the resolution. Tasker recounted that the Rotary’s annual kickoff supports youth programs and said the group engages high‑school ag mechanics classes to refurbish community parade equipment.
A councilmember moved approval of Resolution 2025‑23, described in the agenda as enforcement of the historic Ellensburg double cross ordinance. The motion was seconded and the council approved the resolution by voice vote.
Councilmembers and staff thanked Tasker and volunteers for their community work and for supporting youth organizations. The resolution formalizes enforcement of the local ordinance as presented in the August agenda packet and does not change the ordinance text in the record; it authorizes enforcement consistent with customary practices outlined in the packet.
