The Kittredge Elementary School building committee has requested permission to delay its Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) schematic submission until February so the district can take advantage of newly increased MSBA reimbursement caps, a school committee member said Oct. 9.
School Committee member David Brown told colleagues the MSBA board approved higher funding caps in August; officials said taking advantage of the revised caps could increase the district’s reimbursement for the Kittredge project by roughly $2 million. Brown said the building committee asked MSBA to move the submission from its earlier date into February and that MSBA indicated the request is likely to be approved, though an official decision would arrive before December.
Brown said the schedule change would not alter the project timetable for town meeting or the broader construction schedule. “It won’t affect our ability to present this to town meeting — it doesn’t affect the overall schedule,” Brown said, and characterized the extension as a low‑risk move that could yield a material increase in state reimbursement.
The committee did not take a vote on the MSBA timing at the Oct. 9 meeting; Brown said the Kittredge Building Committee had voted internally to pursue the extension and submit a formal request to MSBA. School officials said they will report back when MSBA provides a formal decision.
