Gahanna schedules Round 3 public engagement for draft strategic plan; adoption process set for fall

City staff outlined Round 3 engagement dates for the Gahanna strategic plan (survey Aug. 26Sep. 20) and proposed an October adoption schedule (introduce Oct. 13; first reading Oct. 20; second reading Nov. 3).
The Senior Director of Administrative Services presented an update on the citywide strategic plan (referred in the presentation as the Gahanna plan) at the Aug. 11 committee meeting, saying Round 3 engagement is under way and listing in-person and online participation opportunities.
The director said round 3 engagement is the publicopportunity to review "the latest draft of the strategic plan" and that the city will host a "sweet celebration" at Creekside on Aug. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. and an "Arghahana Roadshow" (public outreach events) Aug. 27through Sept. 20 at community locations and online. The director said the council will receive a council-specific survey from Aug. 26 to Sept. 7 and that a Planning Next consultant will offer one-on-one calls to review draft recommendations.
Adoption schedule: the director said engagement closes Sept. 20 and consultants will revise the document in September and October. The plan is to introduce the draft in Committee of the Whole on Oct. 13, present for first reading Oct. 20 (with potential discussion on Oct. 27), and hold second reading and a council vote on Nov. 3.
Why it matters: staff described the strategic plan as a citywide framework that will guide future priorities and said it will be tied to other planning documents (CIP, parks master plan, transportation plan) and used to align the 2027 budget with strategic priorities.
Engagement details and tools: the director said outreach will include postcards to every resident, social media, ads, posters and a steering committee that includes council members. Consultants and staff will host in-person pop-ups at schools, libraries, the Y and other sites; the online survey will be open Aug. 26through Sept. 20. Staff urged council members to complete the council-specific survey and offered to schedule calls with Planning Next to review the draft recommendations.
Next steps: staff will compile engagement feedback, the consultant will revise the draft, and the administration expects to present the final draft to council in October for the public hearing and readings noted above.
