Council accepts donations for skatepark design, disc golf and Special Olympics; sculpture donation withdrawn

The Common Council on Oct. 6 accepted three donations to the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department and was notified that a fourth — $45,000 earmarked for a sculpture project — had been removed from the agenda because additional planning (installation, benches, floodplain analysis) remains incomplete.
Parks staff said the $49,250 donation from West Bend Friends of Skatepark will fund design and construction documents for a proposed new skatepark; the staff presentation noted that Mike Nast and the Nast family have committed $50,000 to the project overall, and that the design/RFP and a formal proposal are expected before the Common Council on Oct. 20.
The council also accepted a $400 donation from the West Bend Disc Golf Club for the Riverside Disc Golf Course and a $730.50 donation from Lynch Motor Vehicle Group to support the city’s Special Olympics program. Parks staff said the YARC therapeutic recreation account (donations-funded) contains roughly $30,000 and that staff requested transferring $1,000 from YARC to an expense account for Special Olympics supplies; council approved that transfer earlier in the meeting.
An alderman moved and the council approved the donations by voice vote. The Parks staff thanked donors and emphasized the role private donations play in advancing local recreation projects.
