The Lafayette City Council approved a contract with Midco Diving & Marine Services to perform internal cleaning and inspections for four elevated water tanks and two open reservoirs used by Lafayette Waterworks.
Steve Moore, superintendent at Lafayette Waterworks, presented competing quotes and recommended Midco as the low bidder that met the project requirements. Moore said the work covers four elevated tanks—Hagerty Lane Tower, Plaza South Water Tower, Fairgrounds Tower and Union Street Tower—and two reservoirs at Columbian Park and Murdoch Park. "They actually go in the tank and dive," Moore said, describing the diver‑borne cleaning and inspection process.
Moore presented line items: Midco quoted $16,994 for the four towers and an additional roughly $15,000 to include the two reservoirs, which the department stated yields a total contract value of approximately $31,994. An alternate bidder, Aegis Infrastructure Management (transcript: "Aqius Infrastructure Management"), quoted $22,780 for the towers and $24,009.75 for the reservoirs; the department presented Midco as the lower, compliant option.
Moore said the city runs this as an annual maintenance task and that the pool of vendors has shrunk to a few specialized diving firms. Council members moved and seconded acceptance of the Midco quote by voice vote.
The contract was reviewed by the city legal department before the council vote. Staff will schedule the dives and receive inspection photos and video as part of the deliverables.
